WHO'S IN THE PICTURE?
- Let me tell you about this picture.
I wish I could remember the year this photo was taken at the Chicago Blues Festival. Many of you who have attended the annual free festival in Grant Park will recall that Othar Turner and his fife and drum band would always open the festival by walking through the park playing, eventually ending-up at the Front Porch Stage to provide their wonderful music to all who had come to witness their magic.
Othar and his group had just finished playing their set, and I caught-up with him. We spoke for a few moments, and I requested a photo with him. Othar was more than happy to oblige, and the above picture captures the moment. For me, it was a humbling experience, because I always held Othar in the highest esteem.
I will always remember meeting Othar, and his mesmerizing fife playing. He is greatly missed.
